1. Should absolute ethanol be dried? If yes, will the yield be very low if it is not dried?
2. If absolute methanol is used instead of ethanol, does it have to be dried as well? Is the quantity the same as ethanol?
3. The same question for ethyl acetate: should it be dried? I will buy it from a chemical store so I think it is pure.

If there is water, there will be hydrolysis. You will lose ethylacetate.
Then use sodium methoxide to avoid re-esterification
Use an excess of ethylacetate, then there should be no problems. But you can lose in yields

I tried the method using sodium methoxide, but after dissolving the sodium salt in water and adding acid, nothing precipitated! . While when using sodium ethoxide or isopropoxide, there is no problem

by the way i wont recoment hobby chemist to work with cyanide aromatics and later on gases, its the first red flag im always awere of the synthesis of this, and becaues of that i dont even want to understand the mechanism later ...
