Agents of the National Police, in a joint operation with Europol, have dismantled a highly violent criminal organization led by alias Napoleon, considered the most active narco in the Baltic countries. The criminal organization, of Latvian origin, had its production center for narcotic substances in Spain. 9 entries and searches have been carried out in Spain and 25 in Latvia, and 16 people have been arrested, 10 in Latvia and 6 in Spain.
The investigation began in 2022 through an information received from Europol thanks to which a criminal organization was identified that had its operations center in Girona, from where it had been trafficking large quantities of marijuana from Spain for years, becoming one of the main suppliers of cannabis to the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.
During the investigation it was possible to determine the criminal structure of the organization, which stood out for its strongly hierarchical network, and the distribution of roles and functions of its members. In addition, they had developed an internal communication based on encrypted phones, the use of electronic devices for counter-surveillance and personal security, and the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. The leader in charge of closing the operations, nicknamed Napoleon, was characterized by his strong leadership and cruelty, even using physical punishment with people he considered disloyal. In addition, he adopted his own security measures such as moving by van with strong security measures and always accompanied by three bodyguards.
One of his lieutenants nicknamed Saiba (because of his hockey player past) was responsible for the coordination of drug production activities in the areas of Girona and Valencia, located on the outskirts of nucleos. To do this, he would have woven an important network of contacts with local suppliers with whom he would contact to acquire the narcotic substance.
Another of the trusted members, nicknamed The Virus because of the impulsive and virulent character, was in charge of supervising functions of packaging and transporting narcotic substances. Due to his high technical knowledge, he was in charge of counter-surveillance measures in warehouses and vehicles, as well as GPS monitoring of drug shipments.
The violence used by the organization against people outside it, including other traffickers, led it to acquire an industrial pet crematorium for the destruction of evidence of its criminal activities.
After two years of investigation, the exploitation phase of the operation was carried out, 34 house searches were carried out, nine of them in the Spanish provinces of Girona and Valencia, where war weapons (four hand grenades and an automatic weapon), electric pistols, six gas masks, three bulletproof vests of military origin, radio frequency detectors, GPS devices, security forces and corps clothing, and a multitude of false documentation have been intervened. In addition, 110,000 euros in cash have been intervened and 10 real estate properties worth 800,000 euros have been blocked, as well as four high-end vehicles and 13 kilograms of marijuana buds.
Of the 16 arrests carried out, six of them have taken place in Spain, three of whom have already been remanded in custody.
