Question Keep 4mmc cool during acidification stage of the synthesis

I've tried doing 1kg 2b4m batches of the 4mmc synthesis so 1000g 2b4m, 7000ml dcm, 2000ml Methyloamine wash with water, 5000ml acetone and 390ml hydrochloric acid. When adding acid I just struggle heavily with keeping it all cool during the thermal reaction is happening. I was thinking when I wash the mixture after the first stage to rid of any Methyloamine smells during the synthesis to use ice cubes or half ice cubes and half water so it would bring the temp right down before I move onto the acidification stage. Or does anyone have any additional advice please
