I was looking over the properties of Hexane, and it seems a good fit do use as solvent .
It is also cheap. Anyone experience with it for Mephedrone synthesis ?

4-MMC has a higher soluble in polar solvents like DCM,Ethanol,Methanol...etc. Hexane has a low polarity leading it to be less efficient when interacting with the polar functional groups of the Mephedrone molecules .
DCM is as non polar as it gets, freebase mephedrone is soluble in non polar media and the hydrochloride in polar. Hexane is usually on the costly side if bought under this name but petroleum ether 40-60 mainly consists of hexanes. Wether is any good for this preparation? well, CHEM-IS-TRY

Hey bud, could you go into a tad more detail on what didn't work? Did you substitute DCM/EA for hexane as the solvent the BK4 is dissolved in before methyl amination?
I'm genuinely curious as I've run out of DCM but have a fresh 7l canister of hexane, hoping it'll work. I don't get my methylamine in until next week, so here's hoping you see this comment.

I'm thinking of doing a small scale reaction using hexane as the solvent as to not lose too much raw material in case shit hits the fan, about 100gs of BK4 should do it.
I don't do a lot of 15g experiments
but if I did then it would save me a hell of a lot of money. Perhaps you are getting an amazing deal on 2b4mp. You paid ...$160/kg delivered. That 100g cost you $16, but what's it worth, by the time you paid, waited, bit your nails, cleaned your house and finally got it? Sounds like $50 easy for that 100g. Once, long ago, I bought some off of ebay, and paid almost $200/50g. You might want to reconsider what constitutes a small reaction
